SkyQuest welcomes Dr. Ashley Stevens, President Focus IP Group, LLC, on the Strategic Advisory Board

Dr. Ashley StevensDr. Stevens with over 25+ years of academic and industrial experience across different functions like commercial development, sales, marketing, product management, strategic planning and acquisition mergers, Dr. Stevens serves as an expert for different matters of intellectual property and technology commercialization. Dr. Stevens is serving as the president of Focus IP Group. For 15 years, he led Boston University’s Office of Technology Transfer. During his tenure at Boston University, the Office of Technology Development spun out over 50 companies based on the University’s research, a number of which raised substantial amounts of capital, and the University’s licensing income climbed steadily.

Prior to entering the technology transfer profession, Dr. Stevens worked in the biotechnology industry for nearly ten years.  He was a co-founder of Kytogenics, Inc. and of Genmap, Inc., and was Vice President of Business Development for BioTechnica International.  He started his career with The Procter & Gamble Company, where he held a number of positions in commercial development, sales, marketing, product management, strategic planning and acquisitions and mergers.

Dr. Stevens publishes and lectures frequently on many aspects of technology transfer, including the Bayh-Dole Act, the economic impact of technology transfer and its role in economic development, the contribution of academia to the discovery of new drugs and vaccines, the role of technology transfer in global health and technology valuation in different countries – Belgium, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, India, Singapore and S. Africa. He was the recipient of the Bayh-Dole Award at the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) 2007 Annual Meeting and became President of AUTM in March 2010.

He is a lecturer at Health Sector Management Program – Boston University and has been recently appointed a Guest Professor at Osaka University, Japan, where he teaches G-TEC, an intensive summer course on technology commercialization.  He has also taught in Belgium, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, India, Singapore and S. Africa.

Dr. Stevens holds a Bachelor of Arts in Natural Sciences, a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in Physical Chemistry from Oxford University. He is a Certified Licensing Professional and a Registered Technology Transfer Professional.

CarsMr. Carsen Wenon Wen has more than 30 years of experience in business, corporate, and securities law. He is a partner of the Jones Day, a leading global law firm, and also the Chairman of Sancus Capital Limited. He has advised international clients on mergers and acquisitions of listed and private companies in multiple industries and represents international and Hong Kong companies in their direct investments in China. He has also assisted PRC state-owned and private enterprises in their offshore acquisitions, listings and other corporate finance activities. He also provides advice on regulatory and strategic issues. Mr. Wen has been named as a leading adviser on Chinese law, mergers & acquisitions and capital markets work in Who’s Who of the Law, Asia Pacific Legal 500, Asia Law Leading Lawyers, Chambers Asia and China’s Top 200. He is also named in the International Who’s Who and Who’s Who of the World.

Mr. Wen is a member of the Business Advisory Council of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). He is also a Director of the Pacific Basin Economic Council. He is also Guest Professor of the Law School of Zhonghan University (also known as Sun Yat-Sen University), which is the leading university in Southern China.

Mr. Wen has represented Hong Kong since the Handover as a Deputy of the National People’s Congress. He is a Justice of the Peace and was also awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) by the HKSAR Government. Mr. Wen was Vice-Chairman and now Senior Adviser of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB), the largest political party in Hong Kong and also holds leadership positions in various professional and community organizations in Mainland China and Hong Kong, including Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Zhong Hua Construction Foundation and Committee Member of the China M & A Association, China Africa Business Council and the California Association of China and Hong Kong.

Mr. Wen was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government for his contribution to economic ties between Hong Kong, Mainland China and the rest of the world.

Technology & IP Management Workshop, Bangkok – Thailand, 2-3 September 2013

We are glad to announce successful completion of a two days workshop in Bangkok, Thailand, on Technology & Research Management Workshop with Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS) organized on 2nd and 3rd September 2013. This workshop provided a holistic view and understanding of various significant aspects of Technology & Research Management.

The sessions were conducted by SkyQuest team including the managing director,Mr. Akash Bhavsar, Director – Euro Asia, Mr. David Furst and Advisor – SkyQuest Technology Group, Dr. Ashley Stevens. All the speakers with their immense experience & expertise in diverse domains from different geographic regions presented participants with different global perspectives regarding technology & research management through scenarios in Asia, Israel and the US. All the speakers contributed their bit with different regions thus cumulatively gave an overarching outlook of the technology transfer practices globally.

 The workshop sensitized the researchers from academia and professionals from industry regarding nuances of technology management right from maintaining laboratory note books to strategically capitalize on one’s intellectual property through licensing; various factors to be considered for evaluation, principles of valuation and its approaches, techno-legal agreement and its analysis along with the significance of post deal monitoring and practical aspects associated with Technology Transfer.

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is the regional development arm of the United Nations for the Asia-Pacific region. Consisting of executives and representatives of leading businesses in a wide range of  industries and sectors from across the Asia-Pacific region, EBAC was established in 2004 and has provided substantive support and in-kind contribution to various ESCAP activities ever since.

EBAC members consist of business leaders, CEOs, representatives and experts from or operating in regional member and associate member countries/economies of ESCAP. They conform to and promote ethical and responsible business practices and fully subscribe to United Nations principles and norms. Ariel1 was designed to contribute to the current knowledge of the ionosphere and of sun-ionosphere relationships. The satellite investigated solar ultra violet and X-radiation, and obtained an energy spectrum of primary cosmic rays.

The recent fire at the BSNL office is a live example of the damage a minor short circuit can induce. Over 20,000 phone lines were dead across four commercial areas of Ahmedabad. Apart from the monetary loss, resources spent on damage control and customers’ inconvenience leaves a scar on the brand image. Recalling from brands, an IPL match on April 10th ’12 between RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) and KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders), experienced a twenty minutes delay due to short circuit again.The question is, can we prevent a disaster at such junctions? Yes, a preventive fault system can correct the situation with a blink.
