Artificial intelligence (AI), a concept that was merely fiction a couple of decades ago is now defining a completely new era of human civilization. Transcending the borders of what’s possible and what’s not, AI has witnessed exponential development in recent years and could become a force to reckon with soon. As per Skyquest analysis, the artificial intelligence market is estimated to expand at a stellar CAGR of 38.1% through 2030.
Integrated with machine and deep learning, artificial intelligence technology has come a long way. AI language models are learning at a much faster rate by utilizing machine learning and deep learning algorithms, which eliminates the need for manual training via inputs of huge data. Advancements in generative AI technology and the growing use of artificial intelligence as a service in different industry verticals are also factors that point toward the prominence of AI in this era.
As per a Forbes Advisor survey, around 56% of businesses in the world are utilizing AI tools to chaor perfect their business operations while 51% of businesses are utilizing AI to improve their cybersecurity.
ChatGPT is the prime example showcasing the strength and capability of artificial intelligence models, so yes, this is the age of AI that we are living in.
Artificial intelligence is redefining the frontiers of security in the digital as well as the real world. AI in security has opened immense growth scope of artificial intelligence services around the world. An increasing number of organizations equipping their security solutions with AI to enhance their capability and provide all-inclusive, and 24/7 protection are writing a new chapter in the age of AI for security applications.
At an event held in San Francisco, United States in March 2024, Microsoft announced that it will be expanding the availability of its AI-powered cybersecurity assistant for cybersecurity professionals. The company intended to launch the service with a ‘pay-as-you-go’ strategy from April 2024.
The future of artificial intelligence is not only bright but also generative and conversational, which has opened a multitude of opportunities for all types of artificial intelligence providers in the world. From chatbots to dedicated AI tools made for specific applications, artificial intelligence is everywhere either in a conversational or a generative format.
Here are some noteworthy generative and conversational AI model developments:
OpenAI, a leading name in the artificial intelligence space, announced the launch of its new generative AI model called Sora back in February 2024. This new tool can create photorealistic videos of up to 60 seconds using text prompts.
In March 2024, AIspehere, an artificial intelligence start-up based in China announced that it had raised USD 14 million in funding to compete with OpenAI’s recently launched Sora. The company has ambitious aspirations of catching up with Sora’s capabilities in 3 to 6 months.
In March 2024, Fyle, a renowned intelligence expense management provider, announced the launch of its new conversational AI platform to help employees submit their expense details via text messages.
Figure AI, a renowned company known for its humanoids, announced that it had raised a hefty sum of USD 675 million in a Series B funding round in March 2024. NVIDIA, Microsoft, OpenAI Startup fund, and some organizations owned by Jeff Bezos were among the key investors for this financing round.
The conversation around artificial intelligence being potentially dangerous to the existence of human civilization is still quite relevant and with its exponential rate of development, AI could become increasingly dangerous as per some industry leaders. Although this has not stopped AI companies from developing their products, it sure is projected to bring a lot of controversy and conflict in the age of AI.
Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google addressed the controversial responses created by the company’s AI model called Gemini in February 2024. The company was surrounded with controversy when Gemini generated problematic responses regarding people of color and other offensive responses. The company had suspended its Gemini image creation tool for these issues.
Another controversy in the artificial intelligence world comes from billionaire visionary Elon Musk as he filed for a lawsuit against ChatGPT maker OpenAI.
As per an article published on The South China Morning Post, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Joe Biden, the president of the United States was planning to sign a deal to prevent the use of AI in nuclear weapon control systems.
In March 2023, Steve Wozniak, Elon Musk, Rachel Bronson, and around 1000 more tech-related personalities and researchers signed an open letter to pause the development of advanced artificial intelligence programs at their labs citing the potential dangers it could bring to human society.
While the age of AI might already be here and probably even become a mainstay of human civilization it is not without its drawbacks and dangers. Large-scale deployment of AI models could lead to loss of jobs and therefore an increased economic divide among the rich and poor of the world. Regulations and standardization with limits on what can be done and what can’t be done, should be implemented to help the age of AI go down as a successful one in history. But this will require an extraordinary amount of coordination between countries of the world, which is surely a tough feat to achieve, especially when geopolitical tensions around the world are at an all-time high. The fate of artificial intelligence in the real world could very well mimic the cinematic experience of the Terminator world where machines take over the world if the tech is not handled the way it should be.
