Alternative technologies, such as Ring Laser Gyroscopes (RLGs) and Fibre Optic Gyros (FOGs), are more dependable than MEMS inertial navigation sensors because they produce more accurate readings. • FOGs work on the basis of optical fibres that have been tuned to a single frequency of light that is being propagated. An external force is applied to modify the direction of light, and hence the frequency of the propagated light.
