Due to the increasing ecological awareness of consumers, many industries are turning to the use of natural surfactants in their manufacturing, cleaning and even personal care products. People are embracing the use of natural surfactants from renewable plants and microbe sources instead of chemically produced ones because of eco-friendliness, biodegradability and low pollution effects. The demand for natural surfactants is thus growing with this trend towards eco-friendly and green products.

Shift to Plant-Based Surfactants: As a response to customer demand for products made from sustainable and renewable resources, there has been a notable shift towards plant-based natural surfactants. The application of sugar, coconut oil, and palm oil as feedstocks for creating surfactants having desirable properties such as foaming and cleaning is increasing. This trend is driving the market particularly in cleaning and personal care products.

North America accounted for a significant share, due in part to government regulations and increasing demand for chemical-free surfactants. In view of the harmful effects of traditional surfactants on the skin, consumer demand for natural products and bio-based components will expand significantly. For instance, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, surfactants that meet the safer choice requirements can be utilized in safer choice products. The environmental fate and toxicity criteria for chemicals in direct release products should be fulfilled by the surfactant compounds that avoid sewage treatment. Therefore, demand for natural and bio-based surfactants is expected to increase.
